The come-out roll
The first roll of a new round is the come-out roll. For a Pass Line bet, 7 or 11 wins and 2, 3 or 12 loses under the standard rules. A total of 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 becomes the point instead of settling that bet immediately.
There is no prize for knowing every term at once. Read the sequence and give yourself permission to stop at the point you have understood.
The point phase
Once a point is set, the shooter keeps rolling. A Pass Line bet wins if that point number appears again before a 7; it loses if a 7 appears first. The table puck commonly indicates whether the game is in the come-out or point phase, which helps explain the action.
A table can be watched before it is joined, which is often the easiest way to see how the written rules meet the pace of play.
Keep the first choice simple
Craps also contains Come, Don’t Pass, Place and one-roll proposition bets, each with its own timing and terms. Do not treat the crowded layout as a reason to rush. Ask staff to explain a marked area and check whether a dice table is available before planning a visit.
If you decide to see the game in person, check current entry, access and timetable information with the venue before you travel. Keep those arrangements separate from your gambling budget.
The Pass Line is only one part of craps. Read the posted terms before treating any other marked area as the same kind of bet.
